Following the chronic and persistent violation of the rights of Nigerian youths by the infamous Special Anti-Robbery Squad(SARS), the Nigerian youths decided that enough was enough and decided to start a peaceful protest coined The #EndSars campaign, they demanded the disbanding of SARS a unit which they claim and multiple online videos have shown that this unit SARS which was meant to track down criminals and protect the civilians have themselves become the predators of Nigerian youths.

According to multiple sources SARS has been banned multiple times but remained operational but this time the youth are bent on seeing that it comes to an end.

Despite the fact that the government recently announced the disband of SARS, because of the high level of skepticism of the Nigerian population towards the government, the youth are still very much skeptical of the genuineness of this declaration, it has been claimed that some of the personnel that constituted SARS will now be transferred to a newly created Unit called SWAT.

Speaking to a friend of mine about the shootings that happened in Lekki, Lagos, he said youths were killed and that he had just left Lagos 2 days ago, this is disturbing indeed.

Nigeria is at a crossroads, I see this as the awakening of Africa, a second wave of democracy is sweeping across Africa, The Cheetah Generation as Prof George Ayittey calls them have risen up and they are asking for social justice, accountability, and good governance.

It is my hope that the Nigerian government would hear the voices of the youths and take steps to make significant and genuine changes in its policies and governance and I am also using this medium to call on the Nigerian youths to continue their peaceful demand for change and a better life for the common masses.

The youths have risen, they have been stabbed in the back multiple times by the corrupt and despotic leaders, and they are now taking the heat to the despots and more coconuts will tumble across Africa as the second wave of democracy sweeps through.
